20 years ago today, on the 31st of October 1981, Human League reached #1 in the UK charts with their second album “Dare”. Human League was one of the most popular and successful Synth Pop bands in the 80’s and Dare, influenced by artists such as David Bowie and Gary Numan, became an icon album of the Synth Pop era. In 1981 the British Musician’s Union started a campaign against “Dare” and other Synth Pop albums, under the name of “Keep it Live”, to fight the use of drum machines and syntherizers because they were scared that they would replace musicians.
