2004 :: Top News of the Year – Electronic and Alternative Music

December 27th, 2004

2004 is gone and has left a long stella of news related to electronic
and alternative music. This is a compilation of the most significant happenings
published in Intuitive Music that will give you a glance of what happened
this year.

Clubs like Arc in NYC closed their doors, and festivals like Lollapalooza
and Berlin Love Parade were cancelled. Some of the most important artists
left us, such as John Balance from Coil, Punk pioneers Johny Ramone, Robert
Quine, and New York Dolls’ Arthur Kane. Also the funk legend Rick James,
electronic pioneer and composer Elmer Bernstein, Dub pioneer Clement ‘Sir
Coxsone’ Dodd, and the legendary British radio DJ John Peel.

2004 has also been witness of the reunion of old bands like Spandau Ballet,
Psychic TV, Skinny Puppy, Beastie Boys, Madness, Dead Can Dance, Happy
Mondays, and Asia. Finally, some of the most important headers of the
year in electronic and alternative culture were the split of Orbital,
the performances of Björk and DJ Tiësto at the opening ceremony
in the Olympic Games, and the scare that Marc Almond gave us after his
almost fatal motorbike accident in London.
