25 years ago today, on the 27th of October 1980, singer Steve Took, ex-member of T. Rex died at the age of 31.
Steve “Peregrine” Took is best remembered as being Marc Bolan’s sideman in the early years of the legendary Glam band Tyrannosaurus Rex. He was one of the most active artists in London’s psychedelic and pre-punk underground scenes. Took was founder of the bands The Pink Faeries (1969), Shagrat (1970), and The Horns (1977). He also played with artists such as Nik Turner (Hawkind), Captain Lockheed, Bob Calvert, and Jolly Roger And The Crimson Gash.

Steve Took died in his shared flat off Portobello Road (London) of asphyxiation when inhaling a cocktail cherry, after having injected morphine and consuming psychotropic mushrooms.
