25 years ago today, on the 18th of October 1979, The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star” reached #1 in the UK charts. It was the debut single from the British duo formed by Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes.
The Buggles released two albums before joining the progressive rock band Yes in 1980. Geoff Downes was later a member of Asia, and Trevor Horn made an infamous career as a producer of artists such as Yes, Seal, ABC, Belle & Sebastian, Lisa Stansfield, Pet Shop Boys, Tina Turner, and Propaganda. He also formed the electronic project Art of Noise in 1983. On November the 11th the Prince’s Trust will pay tribute to his career in a concert featurin a number of bands produced over the years by the reputed British producer.
“Video Killed the Radio Star” video clip was the first ever played on MTV.
