25th Anniversary of Human League’s “Reproduction”
October 5th, 2004
25 years ago today, on the 5th of October 1979, Human League’s debut album “Reproduction” was released, which is considered one of the pioneer works of Synth Pop from the late 70’s.
“Reproduction” was recorded at the Workshop studios in Sheffield within 3 weeks and post-produced by Colin Thurston in London.
Although the album was warmly received by the music press, it was a commercial failure and was considered as “too experimental for the audience” by Virgin records. Even so, the album charted at #27 and re-entered the charts at # 51 in 1981.
A month after the release of “Reproduction”, members Ian Marsh and Martyn Ware quit the band to form The British Electric Foundation and later Heaven 17, being replaced by Ian Burden, Joanne Catherall and Suzanne Sulley.
