April 8th, 2003 by Koldo Barroso
25 years ago today, on the 8th of April 1978, Japan debut album “Adolescent Sex” was released on Ariola Records, which is one of the most important New Wave works from the late 70’s.
“Adolescent Sex” was recorded in 1977 at Audio International Studios in London and produced by Ray Singer. The album is a conceptual story about the onanistic fantasies of a boy. Most of the tacks were written by David Sylvian. Japan was formed by David Sylvian (vocals, guitar), Mick Karn (bass, vocals), Steve Jansen (drums, vocals, percussion), Rob Dean (guitar, vocals) and Richard Barbieri (keyboards, vocals). “Adolescent Sex” features the expressionist and unique vocals of David Sylvian in an exquisite and androgynous combination of post-Punk atmospheres, Funk rhythms and Neo-Romantic flavour.
