25th Anniversary of Throbbing Gristle’s “Second Annual Report”

February 4th, 2003 by Koldo Barroso

25 years ago today, on the 4th of February 1978, Throbbing Gristle released the album “Second Annual Report”, which is considered one of the pioneer works of Industrial electronic.

Released on the Industrial Records label, “Second Annual Report” was the second album of the band formed by Genesis P-Orridge (bass, vocals, violins), Chris Carter (synthesizers, electronic rhythms, tapes), Peter Christopherson (tapes, machines) & Cosey Fanni Tutti (lead guitar, effects, tapes).

Side one of the album was recorded on a cheap cassette recorder with a condenser microphone and side two was mastered on a reel to reel with a vast amount of creativity in the technical aspects which defined the Industrial sound for the forthcoming generations.

“Second Annual Report” was later re-issued in 1991 as a CD by Mute.
