25th Anniversary of Ultravox - Systems of Romance
September 12th, 2003 by admin
25 years ago today, on September the 12th 1978, Ultravox released on Island Records their third album “Systems of Romance”, which meant a key step in the sound and direction of the band and became a classic of the New Wave and Synth Pop era.
The album was recorded by the line-up before Midge Ure’s era, featuring John Foxx (vocals, synths), Chris Cross (bass), Billy Currie (keyboards, violin), Robin Simons (guitar) and Warren Can (drums). It was produced by the legendary Krautrock producer Conny Plank and built a solid bridge between the 70’s Post-Punk generation and the 80’s New Wave era.
“Systems of Romance” was also the last album of Ultravox featuring John Foxx on vocals because he later quit the band in April 1979 to pursue a solo career.
