30 years ago today, on the 21st of July 1973, Brian Eno quit Roxy Music to pursue a solo career.

Brian Eno was founder member of Roxy Music in 1971 and recorded three studio albums with the Glam Rock band. Eno allegedly quit the band after continuous tensions with singer Brian Ferry because, on his own words “Ferry wanted to experiment with the quality of what the music said, and I wanted to experiment with the way you make music.”, adding that Roxy Music had lost the important element of ‘insanity’, he decided to quit when at one particular gig and he found himself thinking more about his laundry than the music itself.

After Brian Eno’s departure Roxy Music followed a successful career with more than 20 studio albums released. Brian Eno pursued a long solo career, becoming a pioneer of modern Ambient music. He has worked with numerous artists such as Robert Fripp, Cluster, Robert Wyatt, John Cage, Genesis, David Toop, Moebius, Roedelius, and Yellow Magic Orchestra. He is also one of the most renowned producers, having worked for David Bowie, Devo, Peter Gabriel, Laurie Anderson, Ultravox and many others.
