30 years ago today, on the 9th of January 1974, British Progressive Rock band Yes released the double album “Tales From Topographic Oceans”, their 6th studio album, which is considered of the most controversial and ambitious works of the band.

“Tales from Topographic Oceans” was recorded at London Morgan studios and produced by Eddie Offord. It’s a double conceptual album divided into four movements. The concept for the album was inspired in the Shastric Indian scriptures while Yes fusioned numerous music styles including rock, jazz, electronic experimentation, ethnic rhythms, and classical music. The album shortly became a gold record and it is still considered by the fans one of the masterpieces of the band, despite the disagreement of keyboardist Rick Wakeman who quit the band at the end of the album tour.
