February 7th, 2004 by Koldo Barroso

40 years ago today, on the 7th of February 1964, The Beatles visited the US for the first time on a Pan Am Yankee Clipper flight 101 that landed at JFK Airport in New York greeted by 3,000 screaming fans. Beatlemania had officially arrived to the US.

The same day the band debuted on the Ed Sullivan Show for an estimated 73 million TV viewers and 50,000 people applied for 728 available seats.

My dad is one of the Port Authority Police Officers standing at the bottom of the stairs. He is now 82 years old. I was five years old when this picture was taking. I have always been proud that my dad was a part of the a historical event the Beatles coming to America…. the start of the British Invasion. He was also Paul McCarthy’s body guard for that day. I am 49 years old and still a huge Beatles fan. I have been called an old hippy. I still believe in PEACE (as you can tell by my email address). I also found another picture of my dad with the Beatles in a magazine that was published at the time of John Lennons death. I wonder if there is a way that I could get a bigger or better picture of the one above. Thank you for posting this one.

Whoops …..it would have been nice if I spelt Paul’s name correct but I wrote this comment at 3 am and was extremely tired. Correction……..Paul McCartney!
