October 30th, 2004 by Koldo Barroso
70 years ago today, on the 30th of October 1934, Theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore performed her first solo Theremin concert at New York’s Town Hall.
Clara, accompanied by her sister Nadia, played on the instrument that had been made to her specifications by Leon Theremin himself. Cara Rockmore’s technique coordinated precise arm and finger movements. She played trills and pitch leaps with unprecedented accuracy. It is said that her natural musicianship held the audience spellbound.
