“A Monkey With A Yellow Hat” is the second work of this abstract trip hop project created by the french artists who sign under the moniker of 9th Cloud.

It is an album that recovers the tradition of the early works of DJ Krush, enriched by a series of collaborations that give it a jazz orientation, such as the presence of Pierre d’Ollone and Antonie Viard on the sax.

The album basically contains a series of vocal oriented songs, from which I would note “Soldiers of Your Mind”, featuring the warm vocals of the female singer Rio.

Tracks like “You Know”, featuring the vocals by Rio and MC Runigga, are closer to drum ‘n’ bass, with a clean and well produced sound. The elegant touch of classic jazz instruments, such as piano, saxophones, and double bass, is one of the main features of the album.

9th Cloud creates a collection of contemporary jazz atmospheres from piano and double bass samplings and loops, such as in the case of “Les Mondes Visibles”.

“A Monkey With A Yellow Hat” represents an alternative to the Bristol trip hop sound, with big influences from the french hip hop and jazz scenes. A very pleasurable album with a non-pop orientation, but an ambient one for true trip hop lovers.
