Arthur Kane of New York Dolls Passing

July 14th, 2004

Here’s an email I received this morning (Wednesday) from the Bishop of Arthur Kane’s church in Westwood, California…

Brothers and Sisters:

Our dear friend and brother, Arthur Kane, passed away last night.  We believe that it was due to an advanced stage of leukemia.  Arthur’s gentle and sweet influence will be missed.  He is a great example of meekness, kindness and of enduring to the end.

Many of you know that he was in a famous punk rock band, the New York Dolls.  The band had broken up and had not played together in over 27 years but, miraculously, the band came together for two shows in London last month and had a few more concerts planned.  The ability to perform again, to mend fences with his band mates, and to bring joy to fans for a last time pleased Arthur tremendously.  There was an excitement (even a giddiness!) surrounding Arthur over the past few months.

Arthur also served faithfully in the Family History Center for the last 4-5 years.  He bore his testimony often of the blessings and joy of family history work.  I know that he will be missed there, too.

We are planning on a memorial service at the Westwood chapel on Saturday, July 17, at 10:00 in the morning.  We hope that you can attend.  Please feel free to pass this information on to Arthur’s many friends.
