Caravan – Better By Far – March 2005

Eclectic Discs is releasing the first CD edition of Caravan’s 1977 studio album “Better By Far’. The album has been unavailable for over 20 years and it features fine examples of Pye Hastings’ songwriting craft such as “Nightmare”, “Better By Far” and “Behind You”. The release also features the Geoffrey Richardson classic “The Last Unicorn” and Jan Schelhaas’ “Man in a Car” and production from Tony Visconti.

This is part of a series of of Caravan’s classic material re-issues that the Canterbury based label Eclectic is releasing. Other artists re-issued on the label are Camel, Ten Years After, Nektar, Kevin Ayers, Pink Fairies, Barclay James Harvest, and Jack Bruce. Caravan is the most reputed Canterbury sound band from the 60’s/70’s which fusion of rock, jazz, blues, and English folk influenced to artists like Camel and Hathfield and The North.

“Better By Far” has been digitally remastered by Paschal Byrne, who has remastered all of Caravan’s Universal reissues.The release features liner notes and unseen photographs.
