Born in Washington D.C. 1970, Paul D.Miller -aka DJ Spooky- is one of the most creative DJs from the States, and main figure of the New York’s illbient scene.

Paul Miller’s interest in music started after listening to the jazz records collection that his father left him as a heritage, after he dead when Paul was only 3. He gratuated in French literature and philosophy and later moved to New York where formed the underground Punk Soundlab collective, which would later become the illbient movement in the early 90’s.

After having released several singles and EPs, in 1994 DJ Spooky signed a record contract with Asphodel and two years later he released his debut album “Songs of a Dead Dreamer”, which is one of the most brilliant electronic productions from the 90’s.

DJ Spooky sound is a mix of different styles such as dub, ambient, hip hop, and drum ‘n’ bass. He has been also influenced by avant-garde composers such as John Cage, Steve Reich, and Karlheinz Stockhausen, as well as other artists like Jimi Hendrix, Mantronix, and Sun Ra.

DJ Spooky has remixed and worked with artists such as Ianis Xenakis, Scanner, Sublime, Arto Lindsay, Metallica, William Parker, and Nick Cave. He has also mounted visual exhibits at the Whitney Museum in New York, He also scored the award-winning 1998 film “Slam”.
