Eat Static
Formed in Frome (UK) in 1989 by Merv Pepler, and Joie Hinton, Eat Static are known as one of the first British trance bands.
Eat Static is a parallel project of the progressive and space rock band Ozric Tentacles, with the collaboration of sound engineer Steve Everitt. The band is one of the most represetative psychedelic trance and progressive house acts in the UK and are known for their fixation on sci-fi themes and extraterrestial life. As well as Ozric Tentacles, they are highly influenced by early space rock artists such as Gong, Hawkwind, and kosmiche artists like Manuel Göttsching.
Eat Static’s debut album “Implant” was released in 1994 on Planet Dog label. The band later signed to Mammoth records and after two records they foounded their own label called Mesobeat, in 1999.
Eat Static has another parallel project, a bridge between Ozric Tentacles and Eat Static, called Nodens Ictus, which is an ambient project influenced by 70’s electronic sequencial music. They have also remixed to and worked with other artists such as Dave Angel, System 7, Steve Joliffe, Andy Guthrie, and Gong.
