Electro - Definition

Genre born in the early 80’s as a result of the fusion between hip hop, funk, and synth pop. Afrika Bambaataa is credited as the father of electro with his classic piece “Planet Rock”, released in 1986.

Other electro pioneers where Mantronix, Arthur Baker, Juan Atkins’ Cybotron, and Man Parrish.
During the mid 90’s electro music was recovered by a new array of artists like Anthony Rother, DJ Assault, Artificial Material, Dopplereffekt, and Will Web. Other styles derived from electro are electrofunk, EBM, geek, electropunk, and electro pop.

The 21st Century started with a popular revival of the electro sound in the clubs, with the works of Sven Vath, Green Velvet, Felix Da Housecat, and Komputer.
The new trends gave birth to the electroclash scene in New York by mixing electro with other styles such as synth pop, punk rock, and rock music.
