Francisco Lopez, Michael Gendreau, Violet – Eastern Europe tour 05, June/July

June 23rd, 2005

Three unique sound explorers will be touring together in eastern Europe during the summer: Francisco Lopez, Michael Gendreau and Violet.

Francisco Lopez (Spain) has been developing a powerful and consistent world of sound creations during the last twenty years, ‘trying to reach an ideal of absolute concrte music’. To date, his catalog comprises more than 160 sound works, which have been released by over 130 record labels throughout the world. Through what he once called as ‘the exploration of the universe of broad-band noise from the real world’, his music arises from the processing of environmental recordings.

Michael Gendreau (California, USA) has worked with several group organizations, culminating in Crawling With Tarts (1983-1998), and using this group as a medium for work in elementalism, attention to temporal and environmental persistence, and eventually, applications of parataxis. These final studies included the use of small motors and turntable mechanisms, mostly performing with one-off transcription discs cast by others in the middle of the last century, or cut in Gendreaus studio using a decrepit lathe.

Violet (Washington DC, USA), aka Jeff Surak, has played in such projects as v., Normal Music, Critikal, Second Violin, -1348-, and New Carrollton and a multitude of collaborations. Organic irrational compositions, using electro-acoustic instruments and tape/cd/vinyl manipulations. Violet has performed across the USA and in Europe.
