Jimmy Page and The Theremin
March 12th, 2007
A curious picture of guitarist Jimmy Page at the theremin live during Led Zeppelin’s concert at Kezar Stadium, New York, 1973.
Page is one of the most notorious rock musicians who brought to the big audiences the sound of the electronic instrument invented by Leon Theremin in 1920. Unlike other musicians, Page found a new dimension to the instrument by producing a sort of atmospheric effects instead of as a soloist instrument. A nice sample of his the theremin playing can be seen at Led Zeppelin’s film ‘The Song Remains The Same’.

The vitality of the Theremin is pretty extraordinary. I suspect the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” brought it to it’s widest audience. Tons of space bands still incorporate it into their mix, groups like Jean-Michel Jarre, Loop Guru, Waveworld, Purple Dawn and I think Kitaro had one in his studio as well. Robert Moog was building Theremins at the end of his life. And let’s not forget Lothar and the Hand People.

Hi.. It’s great to see a pic of the Guitar God in action with his toy. Love the sound it makes, along with the Hudy-Gurdy and the Didgeridoo..so I like weird interments like the Lyar as well. Any persecution, even the rain stick. But as far as the Theremin was concerned, Jimmy Page was creating the best sound with the bold background of Robert Plants ooo’s and aaah’s…man that was certainly a good baned, Same it had to end, but I think they did the right thing, and allowing the pure music to hold its own place in history. It still knocks my socks off to hear them, glad they are coming out with a new releace this 2007. cool. Peace, Love & Butterflies. Check out my kinda tribute page homage to JImmy Page. http://www.360.yahoo.com/sychyck.html/

How you think when the economic crisis will end? I wish to make statistics of independent opinions!

It’s not New York… Kezar’s place is San Francisco.
