Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin Receive Lifetime Acheivement Awards

January 10th, 2005 by admin

Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin will both be honoured at this year's 2005 Grammy Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Janis Joplin is the most important white Blues Rock singer in the music history and a real icon from the 60’s and Hippy culture, despite her short career. She released her debut album. “Big Brother & the Holding Company” in 1967 and by October 1970 she died due to a heroine overdose when she was just 27 years old.

Formed by Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards), and John Bonham (drums), Led Zeppelin is one of the most important and influential Rock bands from the 70’s, which left an indelible footprint in the history of Hard Rock. Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and later split in 1980 after the death of John Bonham of heart failure at age 32. The rest of the band never got together again in the studio under the Led Zeppelin name, only for special occasions onstage, but they did in other bands like The Firm, and Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have played together since 1994.

Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy says, "The Lifetime
Achievement, Trustees and Technical Grammy Awards recognize music
people who have made a lasting contribution to culture around the world

"These profoundly inspiring figures are being honored as legendary
performers and archetypal musicians, cultural ambassadors, and
