Meat Beat Manifesto
Meat Beat Manifesto is one of the most influential and significant experimental and industrial electronic music bands.
The band was originally formed in London, 1988, by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Jack Dangers -aka John Corrigan- and programmer Jonny Stephens who had recently split from the band Perennial Divide. Sadly, the new project of the duo was totally lost before it’s release due to a fire in the studio. Their following work, the EP “Storm The Studio” placed in the spot of the industrial scene and called the attention of the prestigious Wax Trax! label, which compiled the few surviving recordings from the fire and released it as the debut album of the band, “Armed Audio Warfare” (1990), which was highly influenced by artists such as Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire, and Throbbing Gristle.
With the the collaboration of Marcus Adams (dancer and choreographer) and Craig Morrison (stage and costume design), and with a focus on sociological and political rights, John Corrigan who is a devout vegan and animal rights activist, they became one of the most important alternative electronic bands from the 90’s.
Meat Beat Manifesto created a personal fusion of TV samples, hip hop, dub, and industrial soundscapes, using “cut-up’ techniques influenced by writter William Burroughs that other musicians such as David Bowie and Cabaret Voltaire did.
In 1992, Meat Beat Manifesto signed to Elektra to release the albums “Satyricon” (1992), renaming the band Meat Beat in a more electronic oriented version. With their sixth album “Actual Sounds and Voices ” (1998) the sound of the band oriented to jazz fusion, featuring the collaboration of the saxophonist Bennie Maupin. The following album “RUOK?” (2002) was considered an essential work in modern electronic music, which was remixed a year later in the album “In Dub”.
During the 90’s, Jack Dangers became a celebrated remixer, working for artists such as The Shamen, Consolidated, David Byrne and MC 900ft Jesus.
