Onepointone compiles the work of a new generation of creative artists
committed to producing quality Electronica with one foot in the 90s
digital sound and the other in the 00s.
The album opens with Ochres Valley Forge, an IDM oriented track constructed
upon beautiful resonance, brilliant harmonies, and Autechrian breakbeats
that bring to mind the work of other British artists like Plaid. This
track is a tasteful and delicate piece that starts the album with a
really nice feeling. His second contribution on the album Reverse Engineering
shows a very nice sequential work, ambiences, and macro-synthesis in
the tradition of 70s electronic masters like Vangelis, completed with
contemporary digital Breakbeats and pounding bass drums.
Zainetica is a London artist whose work we already talked about before
with the release of his Escaping Dust last year, which caused a very
good impression on us. Clear Blue Sky is a Breakbeat track constructed
over ambient loops of harmonies in the style of some of the British
Underground Techno works. His second contribution to the album See
All is a sweet electronic bossanova surrounded by Spanish guitar arpeggios
and trolley synth lines.
J- Auer is a Chicago born musician who lives in Tokyo and has an interest
in the robotic sound and the fusion of Breakbeat, Trip Hop, and Techno.
Across the Horizon is protagonised by the breakbeats of acoustic reverb
-almost Big Beat- drums, and orchestral electronic hits and chords that
recall the classic electronic sound of 808 State.
Apart from his collaboration with Rednetic, Cheju also runs his own
Boltfish label where he produces Experimental Electronica. In Glow
Worms, Cheju builds a beautiful tapestry of analog monophonic sequences
combined with breakbeats along the happy mood and style of Higher Intelligence
Agency.
Utility Players Emathogen is another piece that brings back the
sound of Underground Techno with ambient analog sounds and a futuristic
imprint.
Sidechains Verzoen enters in the most experimental zone of the album
with a series of backward beats and electronic frequencies that create
a jazzy freeform piece.
Convurazio is the moniker of Italian artist Alessandro Siciliano, who
practises the hardest sounds in the album in a blend of restless tones,
noise loops, and ambiences creating an abstract piece. The noise ambient
atmosphere is followed with the powerful sound of Tommi Bass V Neytoda.
This couple of DJs have been working together since 96. In Fraktured
they combine hardcore sounds with Trip Hop smashing drums, and cinematic
orchestrations.
F.E.A.R.s Vacume contributes to the album with a dark ambient piece
that develops from noise minimalism to Drillbience breakbeats.
Scorn-Fury closes the album with a tornado of raging backward breakbeats,
noise, and samples in a wild and abstract track.
Onepointone has been presented as a journey into experimental breakbeat
electronica and other genre shifting breeds, and that is exactly what
it is considering that Breakbeats is the main feature of the album,
despite the successful blend of different styles that it holds. I can
say that Rednetic is one of the most interesting labels in the UK, which
is biding for some of the most brilliant and risky electronica that
has been produced lately in the country. They are following the tradition
of a generation of artists and producers that made electronic music
a rich genre in the UK during the 90s. We wish them a restless and
productive time for the next half of the decade.
