Richard Chartier’s musical work is based in the exploration of the relationship between sound, silence, focus, and the act of listening. He has been awarded one of twelve Honorable Mentions in the category of Digital Music by the prestigious Prix Ars Electronica. He has also experimented in the field of clicks and cuts.

Richard Chartier is also a graphic designer whose artworks have been displayed across the U.S. in numerous galleries and artspaces, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Fusebox (DC), The Contemporary Museum (Baltimore), and the Corcoran Gallery of Art (DC).

Chartier released his debut album “direct.incidental.consequential” on the Intransitive Recordings label in 1998. He has released numerous works on the labels 3particles, Fusebox, Fallt, Trente Oiseaux and Microwave since.

In 2000, Richard Chartier founded the label Line as a subdivision of the 12k label along with Taylor Deupree. He is also resident DJ of Filler club at the Blue Room in Washington DC, and the co-curator of Treatment at Sonar in Baltimore. Chartier has also worked with other artists such as Taylor Deupree, Kim Cascone, Tetsu Inoue, and Nosei Sakata.
