"Lithosphere" is the second collaborative release between DIN label boss Ian Boddy & American ambient pioneer Robert Rich. The duo once again decided to eschew the false economy of a purely virtual collaboration and convened at Rich’s Californian Soundscape studio to physically work together over an intense period of 10 days.
What does it sound like?
"Lithosphere" is a nice collection of analog/digital electronic soundscapes that combines atmospheric electric guitar with ambient electronic programming and sound atmospheres. As an ambient work, this album is very much focused to creating feelings and sensations with the use of the space and movement and it’s full of organic textures.
Similar artists:
There is a resemblance of Tangerine Dream’s space guitar a la Edgar Froese and other late ambient works from the German band. For the rest, it could be compared to the most important ambient artists (Eno, Richard D. James, etc…) but this doesn’t bring any clue. After all the result is original.
Highlights:
The highlight of this production is the variety of ambiences and feelings throughout the whole album. This album is mainly ambiental but is everything but boring and won’t let you indifferent. The last track "Melt" is a beautiful and charming piece of harmonies in spacial movement.
Recommendations:
Recommended to every fan of the DIN label, and lovers of soundscapes and quality ambient music.
