Synth Pop – Definition

April 13th, 2000

Synth pop is the fusion between electronic music and pop music that changed the music map in the late 70’s and became one of the most important music scenes of the first half of the 80’s.

Synth pop is characterised by the mechanical rhythms from drum machines, and the use of synthesizers. The origins of synth pop are in the work of the German band kraftwerk and the British band Cabaret Voltaire.

Other important influence in the synth pop was some of the British glam artists like David Bowie and Roxy Music, specially in the vocal styles.
