Taylor Deupree

Born in New York in 1971, Taylor Deupree is one of the most reputed and innovative digital artists from the last decades.

Emerging from Brooklyn, he was involved with the popular group Prototype 909. Taylor Deupree debuted in 1996 with the EPs “Freak Of Nature”. In 1997, Deupree founded the reputed label 12k, dedicated to digital minimalism and three years later he started the Line label, dedicated to minimal digital music.

During the late 90’s, Taylor Deupree released several works on the12k, Ritonell and Raster labels oriented to minimal music and repetition. In 2001, he released “Occur”, a personal tribute to musique concrete, which was followed by the ultra-minimal works “Stil” in 2002 and “January” in 2004.

Taylor Deupree is also well known as being a part of the SETI project in the 90’s, along with Savvas Ysatis, having released the albums “Ciphers” (1996), “Pharos” (1995), and “Seti” (1994). Deupree has also other parallel projects under different monikers. As Human Mesh Dance he has released several works since 1992 in different compilatons on the labels Instinct, Waveform, Capririnha and Mindspore. As Futique he has also released several tracks on the Instinct and Shadow labels.

Taylor Deupree is also reputed for his collaborations with Christopher Willits, Richard Chartier and Kenneth Kirschner. With Willits, he has released several works since 2003, including “Christopher Willits + Christopher Willits” (2003), “Mujo” (2004) and “Live in Japan, 2004″ (2005). With Kenneth Kirschner he has released two works of the series “Post_Piano” in 2002 and 2005. Other collaborations are Tower of Winds (Caipirinha, 1997) with Savvas Ysatis, Spec (12k, 1999) with Richard Chartier, Active/Freeze (12K, 2000) with Tetsu Inoue, Post_Piano (SubRosa, 2002) with Kenneth Kirschner, After (12k, 2002) with Richard Chartier and Kim Cascone, and Balance (Mille Plateaux, 2002) with Frank Bretschneider.
