Theatrical Tribute to Electronic Music Pioneer, Delia Derbyshire

The life of Delia Derbyshire, who tragically passed away in 2001, will be brought to life by the Reeling & Writhing Theatre Company. The theatre production will be entitled “Standing Wave: Delia Derbyshire in the 1960s” with a script by Nicola McCartney and accompanying electronic music.
Derbyshire got her start working in electronic music gy working at the BBC in 1960. She is well known for her creation of the Dr. Who televison show theme as well as doing numerous compositions and collaborations with people like Yoko Ono, Jimi Hendrix, and others. Many artists have cited her as an influence including Aphex Twin, Orbital, Chemical Brothers, Add N to X, among others.
After and during each performance, there will be a musical performance dedicated to Derbyshire’s work by Scottish composers like Pete Dowling, Nick Fells, Zoe Irvine, Alistair McDonald, Drew Mulholland, and Pete Stollery.
The performance will be shown from October 7-23 at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow and will tour the UK in 2005.
