To Rococo Rot
To Rococo Rot is one of the most innovative electronica bands in recent times. The band was formed in 1995 in Berlin by Stefan Schneider of Kreidler, Robert Lippock, and Ronald Lippock (who is involved with Tarwater) as a collaborative work to produce the soundtrack for an exhibition of Roland’s lithographs.The band still do most of the cover art work for their albums, but they don’t spend as much time on art because of devoting more time to the music.
In 1996, To Rococo Rotreleased their debut album “CD” on the Kitty Yo label. The band gained great popularity in alternative music circles for their unique combination of vintage krautrock, post rock, and different electronica genres such as IDM. During the 90’s and 00’s, the band has released several albums on the City Slang, Mute, Staubgold and Domino labels, including “Veiculo” (1997), “The Amateur View” (1999), “Kölner Brett” (2001), “Music Is a Hungry Ghost” (2001) and “Hotel Morgen” (2004).
Apart from To Rococo Rot, Stefan Schneider has also released solo works under the moniker Mapstation. Ronald Lippok works regulary as part of Tarwater and has also released minimalistic works on the Raster Noton label.
To Rococo Rot have also been joined at times by I-Sound -aka Craig Willingham-.
They have worked with people like St. Etienne and have remixed for artists like Leftfield, Mira Calix, and Appliance. Collaborations with artists like D (Darryl Moore), I-Sound (a New York DJ), Alexander Balanescu, The Pastels and St. Etienne, and from the music each of them makes outside the group, in Tarwater, and in Mapstation and other solo projects and collaborations.
